Eating fish for the sake of your health is almost becoming an oxymoron; although the omega3s in fish is heart healthy the mercury a lot of fish contain can lead to serious health problems.
The New York Times commissioned a study of the fish sold in stores and restaurants in their area. Researchers from Rutgers University found 20 stores in Manhattan that serve sushi. Out of the twenty 5 had levels of mercury so high that the FDA could have legally removed the fish from the market.
Bluefin,a large predatory fish, is the most common fish used for sushi; the bluefin’s source of food are the many small fish contaminated with mercury.
